Important Web Resources

American Rooftile Coatings (ARC) is pleased to share these important web resources:

cool-roof-rating-council
The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is composed of roofing manufacturers, government officials, utility companies, and researchers. The CRRC administers a Product Rating Program which lists the radiative properties of roof coatings. All incentive granting bodies and building code writing bodies use CRRC, directly or indirectly, for qualifying a roof coating as "cool". ARC products are listed with the CRRC.

LEED
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the green building rating system developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The intent is to provide a standard certification process that registers buildings with environmental efficiency and occupant health as goals. Buildings receive points towards varying levels of certification established by the USGBC. ARC products can be used to earn a LEED point towards certification.

energy-star

Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The goal of Energy Star is to help Americans save money on energy and protect the environment. ARC is a registered Energy Star Partner, and ARC roof coatings are Energy Star qualified.

lawrence-berkeley-national-laboratory The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is a world renowned center of scientific excellence and part of the US Department of Energy. The Berkeley Lab conducts leading edge research under its Heat Island Group and Cool Colors Project. ARC has participated in studies with the Heat Island Group and the Cool Colors Project. LBNL has published a helpful Q&A document.

Oak Ridge
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is one of the world's premier centers for research on energy and other sciences. ARC has collaborated with ORNL on projects including the Fort Irwin study. And ARC is cited in a Fact Sheet issued by ORNL.

Roof Savings Calculator
This high quality Roof Savings Calculator was developed ORNL and LBNL with support from CEC and coordinated with EPA. The Fort Irwin study (sometimes labelled CEC PIER), which used ARC Cooltile IR Coatings™, was used to help demonstrate the validity of the tool. This tool was newly updated in 2010, and it replaces prior EPA and DOE tools.

Building Technologies Program

The Buildings Technologies Program, part of the US Department of Energy, includes a cool roof program which funds research at LBNL and ORNL.

pge
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), energy provider for 15 million Californians, has a helpful 18 page Cool Roof Design Brief. They also have a smaller two page Information Brief. For their example of available cool colors, they show a photo of ARC's original test panel of Cooltile IR Coatings™.

lasct Los Angeles Society for Coatings Technology (LASCT) is a voluntary, nonprofit trade association. Established in 1924, it is the preeminent organization in the Southern California area representing more than 100 paint and coatings manufacturers, raw materials suppliers, distributors, educators and students. Among the many important activities of LASCT is an educational scholarship program. ARC is a member of LASCT.

california-polytechnic-state-university-san-luis-obispo California Polytechnic State University(Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo offers a unique Polymers and Coatings Program. The program includes an undergraduate concentraton and a Master of Science degree. ARC is pleased to be a sponsoring organization of the Polymers and Coatings Program.

paint-quality-institute The Paint Quality Institute (PQI) provides resources to educate consumers, contractors and retailers about paints and coatings. PQI's recommendations are based on in-depth experience from testing facilities in 14 different sites worldwide. At these facilities, paint formulations are subjected to real-life conditions and their performance is monitored over time. There are 30,000 panels and over 120,000 paints on exposure at PQI's Spring House, PA facility alone. A good example of a PQI resource is a problem solver area, which details solutions for blistering, chalking, efflorescence, wrinkling and much more. ARC's company history and methods are linked with PQI.

rohm-and-haas Rohm & Haas, now a subsidiary of Dow Chemical, has a long and rich history of revolutionizing paint. Over many decades, Rohm and Haas established the superiority of acrylic polymer as a resin binder for paint. The resin used in ARC's coating is 100% acrylic polymer, as developed by Rohm and Haas.

dsire Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) is a comprehensive source of information on state, local, utility and federal incentives and policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. DSIRE is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Incentives for using ARC products may be found on DSIRE.
